Life Beneath My Feet

Life
Beneath My Feet

I turn my gaze to the shore
There I see a peppered landscape
of living shelled organisms clinging to life.
No protection is offered from the hungry birds
and local folk that have a taste for the sea.
They have no legs to help them escape.
They have no arms to wield a sword.
All they can do is wait and hope for the tide to return,
giving them a watery shield from the land-dwelling enemies above.
If they manage to survive their beached disposition,
another enemy awaits in the shadows below the waves.
In this place where fresh water flows from the mountains,
and softens the saltwater of the earth,
life and death come frequently.
A second thought is never given,
but instead accepted as it is.
Many Folk live a life that closely matches
to those living where land meets the sea.
They don't know how to defend themselves
so they hide in there shells,
hoping for a better day to come.
